Vision and Sound: An African American Experience Exhibit On-Display at the Arts HQ Gallery February 1 – March 16, 2018

An African American experience, celebrates Black History Month with eclectic artists from New York, Maryland, & Arizona, each outstanding in their choice of expression. The exhibit includes Featured Artist Jimmy James Greene, Typewriter Artist Vincent Hall, ChocKolate-Man Kris Rhymes, Installation Artist Susan Copeland, Aviation Artist John W. Clark, Master Drummer & Percussionist Keith Johnson and Emerging Student Artist Kiera Mitchell.

Featured Artist Jimmy James Greene, has spent the last 25 years exploring communal expressions of the African Diaspora in general, and those of the African American experience. “I see myself as a visual storyteller,” says Greene. “The styles I use range from tight representation to abstracted forms, depending upon my intent, but the bottom line is communication. Ideally my work will act as a springboard for the viewer into their own imagination, their own experiences, memories and aspirations.” His preview presentation, at the Northwest Library in Surprise on January 30, will engage the audience in his Vision of African American Art. Jimmy will speak about his creative process and the development of his series, "People of Color".

Other Artists include John W Clark, from Surprise, AZ. Clark won accolades for his Aerospace & Aviation Art and is also well known for his portraits and landscapes. For over 40 years, his efforts have been directed toward commissioned works for Astronomy magazine, NASA and the U.S. Air Force Art Program.

Special gallery hours for this exhibit are Tuesday through Thursday 10:00am to 5:00pm, Friday 10:00am to 2:00pm.. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
